Today, we catch up with one of the most dynamic and unique individuals you will ever meet in healthcare. It is my pleasure to introduce you to KC Devine Raver, FNP-C. This is Part 1 of 3 in a Direct Primary Care Journal (DPC Journal) and DocPreneur Podcast Series on the trend and success of DPC-FNP clinics rising in popularity across the U.S. in 2018 and moving forward.
As a membership family practice, called Direct Primary Care, Well Life ABQ is able to schedule enough time with you to actually get to know you and listen to you. Instead of quickly writing a prescription or referring you to another provider, we work with you to overcome your health problems through nutrition, lifestyle, supplements and even medicine when necessary.
Katherine “KC” Devine Raver is a Family Nurse Practitioner with over 20 years of experience as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner. She has worked in a variety of settings. She was born and mostly raised in Albuquerque. She completed high school in Hawaii and earned her Bachelors of Nursing from the University of Hawaii. As an Army Nurse, she specialized in Pediatrics and spent most of her Army career in the Neonatal Intensive Care. She has also lived in South Carolina, Virginia, Texas and Washington, DC. She moved to Amarillo in 2013 and practiced as a Nurse Practitioner in a pediatric clinic that mostly served Medicaid and refugee patients.
Did you know that in our communities today, the majority of people around us would choose to have a relationship with a NP or PA vs. a Doctor? Why? The DPC Journal surveyed over 1,100 actively seeking patients from across the U.S. in 2017 and asked them about their overall ‘faith’ in a general Physician in today’s healthcare marketplace.
- Nearly 60% of those participants surveyed said ‘If DPC was not an option, they would NOT select an M.D.’ for their next primary care visit.
- 34% said they would prefer to see a Doctor of Osteopathic (D.O.) Medicine;
- 14% would prefer to see a Nurse Practitioner (N.P.) and
- 7% would prefer to see a Physicians Assistant (P.A.).
That leaves an incredible story that can be told through micro-clinics, Direct Primary Care, Concierge Care and other free market healthcare delivery programs and centers. That story is not just about cost either, it’s about showing the people around you that a healthcare provider, Physician, etc., cares about what you care about. Findings from this same survey tell us that 62% of Patients want and choose … ‘Friendship with a Physician they can get to know, like and want to trust!’
Today, I’m so excited to introduce you to someone who truly embraces the positive spirit of DPC while helping those around her in her community whenever they are in need. We caught up with one of the most dynamic and unique individuals you will ever meet in healthcare. It is my pleasure to introduce you to KC Devine Raver, FNP-C. IN our three part series on NP-led DPC practices and programs we see the trend and success of DPC-FNP clinics rising in popularity across the U.S. in 2018 and beyond. As a membership family practice, Well Life ABQ is able to schedule enough time with you to actually get to know you and listen to you. Instead of quickly writing a prescription or referring you to another provider, we work with you to overcome your health problems through nutrition, lifestyle, supplements and even medicine when necessary.
Having always been attracted to alternative treatment options, in 2015 she was able to join Well Life Family Medicine and start her journey into all the things Integrative Medicine has to offer. She feels that both models have something to offer.
She returned home to Albuquerque in late 2016. Wanting to continue practicing integrative medicine, she has joined forces with Well Life in Amarillo and opened Well Life ABQ as an affiliated clinic.
Why membership? Like a gym membership, you are investing in your health. Typically you would only visit your healthcare provider’s office when you are sick. In this model, we are encouraging you to use your medical office for more than just “ill care”. In addition to visits with your healthcare provider, you get discounted supplements, discounted labs and even some discounted medications. Well Life ABQ is also here when you are sick. Through the use of texting, emailing, same/next day visits to members and online/telemedicine when medically appropriate, Well Life ABQ is here.
Well Life ABQ is a great option with or without insurance. Most providers have 800-900 patients on their “panel”. They don’t know who you are and they are so booked with appointments, they only have a few minutes to see you. Through the use of membership, Well Life ABQ is able to only have a patient panel of 300-400. That means you aren’t just a number, you are a person. In addition to your regularly scheduled visits, we keep appointments (online and in-person) open for sick visits AND we can respond to questions in a timely manner.
In our practice, we believe prevention is the key to lifelong health and wellness. We are committed to helping you get well, stay well and live well. It is our mission not only to heal, but to inspire and motivate our patients to embrace and follow a path leading to wellness and a healthy long life.
