Nebraska already has a great deal of flexibility in designing its Medicaid program. This flexibility is on full display as the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services launches its managed care approach to health care: Heritage Health.  Other recent investments and innovations in our state, such as the patient-centered medical home model and direct primary care, will be undermined if Medicaid capped payments become law.

In Nebraska, Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program help us ensure that children get the care they need to grow up to be healthy and productive adults.  Did you know that one in three Nebraska children receives health care through Medicaid? Or that since the 1990s, the costs of Medicaid have not outpaced the other two major sources of insurance in America, Medicare and private insurance? These are just two little-known facts about Medicaid and who is served by the program.
