Letter: Hospital stays not covered under plans (Tenn)

Sept. 24, 2016 – Within your story on concierge medicine, the writer made the statement “for those with no insurance or high deductible policies, it’s a bargain.” This could be dangerously misleading to your readers, because the vast majority of concierge physicians do not choose to have hospital privileges and thus, if someone on one of these plans is admitted to a hospital, none of the physicians taking care of them will be covered by the concierge fees. If they have no insurance, all the hospital and doctors’ charges will come out of their pockets. So the insinuation that a person could substitute health insurance with a concierge membership could lead to financially devastating results if that person requires hospitalization for a significant illness.
