‘Starbucks for health care’ chain Iora expands in Seattle.

JULY 21, 2015 – A Cambridge, Massachusetts-based health care organization has done so well with its two existing Seattle locations that it’s opening a third.

Iora Health will open a new health clinic at 64 Rainier Ave. S. in Renton this month.

Iora opened two clinics in Seattle in September as part of its early growth strategy. The clinics partner with Humana Inc. to serve Medicare Advantage patients.

Humana inks primary care clinic deal with Iora.

The business model focuses on using individual health coaches to make sure patients follow through with their medical instructions and track their care. That one-on-one health coaching model is a trend several other Seattle companies are following, such as the new genetic testing startup Arivale, Vera Whole Health and others.

“One thing we’ve tried to do in our markets and particularly in Seattle, is engage with the community,” said Rushika Fernandopulle, CEO of Iora. “The whole idea is that health care is necessarily social and let’s try and go back to this idea of community and practices, particularly for seniors and be a part of the community.”

He said the two clinics — one in Shoreline and one in the Central District — have been so successful the company wanted to bring the model south of the city.
