Direct Primary Care (DPC) doctors/offices usually offer monthly care fees which are not reimbursable by any health insurance company, and may not be applied to any insurance plan deductible. Your insurance plan may be billed by others for services such as emergency, hospital, specialty care, laboratory tests, diagnostic imaging, prescription drugs or other goods and services that are ordered by your DPC doctor/office health care provider but are not performed or provided in their offices.

  1. I was told by my primary care physician about 3 or 4 days before he closed the office that had just opened 3 mo. prior. I have severe chronic pain from degenerative disc disease in my cervical spine. I was diagnosed 22 yrs ago and have had nothing but problems getting treated. I take a certain medication that I can’t get from any other Medicaid provider – yes I’m on Medicaid. While DPC may work for some, for those of us with very little to no income – we don’t have the money and are just being tossed away. I can’t work without my pain being managed. I’ve tried everything possible during these last 22 yrs and nothing has worked except for 2 different opioids. No I’m not an addict – other modalities didn’t work. I have no place to turn and the doctor I was seeing had to know this all along during the 3 months I was under his care. He kept telling me to ‘stay the course’ with him, that he would ‘see me for all my medical needs’ w/o it ever being necessary for me to see a specialist. I found that odd to be asked that of me, but I finally agreed and then he laid the bomb on me on 5/24/14. I’ve asked him what I should do and he won’t answer my question. He just continues to tell me (via e-mail) what his new practice his about. Oh and his office call rates are typically $15 under DPC, but pts with chronic pain are expected to pay $45/mo in addition to the $79/per mo., in addition to the cost of the medication which will be anywhere from $500 – $700/mo. I think this is so unfair. I’ve gone into a debilitating depression because this falls on top of so many other things have happened in last 10-15 yrs. And, his Medicare patients are not being charged for anything right now – I don’t understand why he can’t do that for me – I have a condition that needs treatment on a monthly basis and I”ve not had an income whatsoever since 2007.
